This bike path is a straight line from our shop. Take Mission St north, past Shaffer Rd, and across the street you will see the entrance to the bike path leading to Wilder Ranch. This path is a good path to avoid pedestrians, more of a bike friendly path, outside the city limits, paved the entire way to Wilder Ranch. Wilder Ranch State Park has a historic ranch, and picnic tables. The ride is about a 10 minute ride north of the shop. You can continue north to explore the bluffs.
This scenic bike path meanders along the Pacific Coast, with incredible views of the Monterey Bay. This bike path is about a 2 minute bike ride from the shop. This bike path can be crowded with pedestrians, and is best to ride along the road adjacent to the bike path. There are several areas to stop and have a photo opportunity. Don't forget to check out Bethany's Curve! This cute little slice of heaven is a short 3 block park, a dog friendly walking path within the residential neighborhood.
This butterfly sanctuary is a popular stop due to its natural bridge rock formations, and sandy beaches. The bike path leads through the park, and exits to West Cliff Dr. UC Santa Cruz Marine Labs has good bike friendly paths leading to the scenic views, whale skeleton, and marine exhibit. To reach the Marine Labs, take Delaware Ave northbound to the end, and find the beginning of the bike path. Before the entrance is Antonelli Pond, and the Homeless Project entrance, with the best strawberrie.
Continue along West Cliff Drive to the Lighthouse Surf Museum, where the world famous, Steamers Lane is located! There is a popular dog beach along the north end, It's Beach, or Dog Beach! Or Ride within the Lighthouse Field Park, also a butterfly sanctuary. There is a local favorite food stop, Steamer Supply, with reasonably priced good food, fish tacos, burgers, and yummy stuff!
The Boardwalk is about a 15 minute bike ride from the shop along West Cliff Drive. Take West Cliff Drive towards the Wharf, another popular area to have Stagnero's Calamari and Clam Chowder bread bowl. Or watch the harbor seals at the end of the Wharf.
Ocean View Park has an incredible view of Santa Cruz, the Boardwalk, and San Lorenzo River. Take the train trestle from the Boardwalk across the San Lorenzo River, and make a left at the end of the path on E Cliff Dr, and head down hill to the path leading to Oceanview Park. Make a right on E Cliff Dr, and head to E Cliff Drive Vista Point, with a view of Seabright Beach, and the Boardwalk. Great for pictures! The Natural History Museum is just down the road near Tyrell Park.
This park is a little further from the shop, about a 20 minute bike ride from the shop, but is worth the effort. This rolling hill grazing pasture above the Santa Cruz Harbor is a good destination for a warm picnic, and view of the Harbor and local trees. Sometimes the cows are in the pastures! You can hike around Arana Gulch, but no bikes are allowed on the hiking trails. Don't forget to see the bridge over the gulch at the northwest end of the bike path, or to visit Fredrick Street Park.
This sanctuary near the water treatment plant, has floating walkways, with good birdwatching, and aesthetic beauty, worth a visit to see a secret of Santa Cruz. Bikes are meant to be walked along this walkway, however, use discretion. You can access this park from the Rail Trail, and new bike path running though the west side of Santa Cruz, which will eventually continue to Watsonville.
